Carol Stewart

b. 1959, Ontario, Canada

Canadian born artist Carol Stewart paints still-life and interior scenes that seek to be representational – identifiable items, not abstract, but not exact, either. She shies away from realism, preferring a more “painterly” method. There are moments in Stewart’s paintings where her loose brushwork seems to define something else, elements of pattern which are not tied to objects at all. Using oil on paper, mounted on panel, Stewart achieves a buttery smooth surface to her images.
